Hi All, and welcome to my new blog.
My name is Janel. I’m 25 years old, a recent college graduate and two weeks ago I married the love of my life and my best friend.
I wanted to create a blog dedicated to the all of the challenges and excitement that come with cooking as a newlywed. This is such an exciting time but along with all of the excitement comes many challenges.
My husband was born and raised in Mexico eating traditional, full fat Mexican food. This means that while we definitely share a few of the same favorite foods (pizza and burgers anyone?) I grew up on steamed broccoli and chicken. While cooking for both of us and eating together is something I look forward to, its going to present its own set of obstacles and challenges.
Take for instance the fact that my husband is incredibly thin and must purposely eat extra fat and carbs to keep from losing weight. I on the other hand have always struggled with my weight and in the process of graduating college and planning the wedding put on about 35 pounds which I’m trying to now lose. Or the fact that I love chicken and husband loves red meat and pork. I’m a light breakfast eating and my husband gets up at 5am for work and I’ve got to cook him a full meal every day.
Despite these differences in eating habits and preferences, I know I can find a balance to make both of us very happy.
This blog will document my successes and failures in cooking as I attempt to find a healthy balance in cooking for people with vastly different nutritional needs (and occasionally different taste and wants to). I'm always on the lookout for new foods to satisfy both taste and health, and new recipes. This should be exciting!
