Cute Food Taste Better

I shall be out and about to (staring up a few classes at the local community college to finish my certification and taking a spanish class), so I won't be home until after 7 tonight so I've armed myself with a tasty little in between classes snack.

Cute food taste better.  Ok maybe it taste the same but the overall experience is more enjoyable and more satisfying.  I also love being able to have a snack that is so colorful.

I packed it in my favorite (perfect snack sized) bento container.

Also less exciting to look at but still delicious to eat is my little container of organic dehydrated fuji apples.  so yummy and i love my little stainless steel container its just the right size.

Back In The Swing of Things

The last several months have been pretty stressful for my family.  My grandfather who I've been incredibly close with my entire life was diagnosed with cancer and lost his battle a few weeks ago.  The stress of that gave me even less incentive to worry about healthy eating, exercising, and my blog.

However I've realized I'm truly hurting myself with these new unhealthy habits I've developed and they have not helped me cope with the pain of watching someone you love suffer and die.  In fact all they've done is add to my own suffering as I've gone from a size 12 to an 18 in less than a year.

So I'm trying to get back into all of the healthy habits I had before, one of the most important ones being packing my own lunch to take everywhere I go instead of relying on fast food.

Today was the first bento style lunch I've made in a long while and it really was fun.  I used one of my pretty basic bentos, but one that I'd never used much.

It's got a flat shelf and a small compartment on the side.

Taking the little shelf off reveals the main compartment.

My bento had a ham roll-up on an olive oil and flax tortilla with some sliced pickles.  The top shelf holds sliced carrots and my little side compartment has a cutie clementine and some fruit kabobs made with fuji apple and kiwi.  Yummy!

My mom was also craving fruit today so I made her an all fruit snack for later.

Yummy Lunch!

When I was in college I always packed super cute lunches.  I totally miss my adorable bento lunches.  So I'm working on trying to pack cute lunches.  The more care I put into my food the more special it feels and the more satisfied I feel.  It's something small but something i think is important (and fun!).  so nothing super fancy today, but its a start.

I've got a small apple diced up, some sliced carrot and a ham sandwhich on a whole wheat bun.  Yummy!

Making Lunch - Save Money and Calories

Today is a day or running errands, which means I will be out of the house at lunch time.  I used to always pack food but being stressed and busy gave me an easy excuse for stopping one day which led to another day.  Yes its easier to eat out, but it cost more money and its unhealthy.

So today I spent about 10 minutes and made matching bento lunches for my mom and I.  Super easy and when I take the time to prepare cute food for myself I feel like I'm taking better care of myself.  (And today is day one of starting weight watchers....only 4 points in the whole little box)
